C. Joe Holland

Inducted: 1982

C. JOE HOLLAND (1915-2007) retired in 1981 after a forty-year association with the University of Oklahoma School of Journalism, including nine years as the school’s director. His career in journalism goes back to 1934, when he began work on the Blackwell Journal-Tribune. Dr. Holland, with the title of professor emeritus of journalism, had an office in OU’s journalism building and advised students and conferred with faculty on an informal daily basis. Upon Holland’s retirement, OU president emeritus Dr. George L. Cross said of him, “He has helped shape the futures of hundreds of young people who are as appreciative of him as I am.”

How to Submit a Nomination

Selection Process

Honorees are selected by a committee comprised of hall of fame members, including its director, and distinguished leaders in journalism. The Selection Committee considers all nominations, both new ones and those held over from previous years, before selecting the honorees.

The 2022 Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame nominee submission deadline is Sunday, Ocober 31, 2021.
