Harry E. Heath, Jr.

Inducted: 1983

HARRY E. HEATH, JR. (1919-1996) was director of the Oklahoma State University School of Journalism and Broadcasting from 1967 until 1982, when he asked to be assigned to full-time teaching. During that span, the school grew from 200 to 750 majors. Dr. Heath worked to improve journalism education in Oklahoma through the nurturing of internship programs with newspapers, radio, television, public relations organizations and advertising agencies. He taught in a number of other universities, worked on daily newspapers and in television, did Army public relations work and was co-author of three books.

How to Submit a Nomination

Selection Process

Honorees are selected by a committee comprised of hall of fame members, including its director, and distinguished leaders in journalism. The Selection Committee considers all nominations, both new ones and those held over from previous years, before selecting the honorees.

The 2024 Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame nominee submission deadline is Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
