CLYDE MUCHMORE (1884-1959) published The Ponca City News for 40 years and was one of Oklahoma’s best-known newspapermen. The paper and Ponca City were small when he went there in 1919, and he gave impetus to the growth of both. Muchmore was active in a number of organizations and was treasurer of the Oklahoma Society of Crippled Children at the time of his death. The paper, under his direction, won state fair sweepstakes awards in 1937 and 1950.
