CULLEN JOHNSON (1901-1988) began his career as the printer’s devil on the Cheyenne (Okla.) Star, and later his work took him to the power centers in Washington, D.C. He was a writer and editor in Seminole, Tonkawa, Alva, Mangum and Elk City before joining the Daily Oklahoman in 1942 and working there until retirement in 1968. He opened the Oklahoman’s news bureau in Washington in 1946 and remained there five years. He then returned to Oklahoma City to cover city and state government.
