Gaylord Shaw

Inducted: 1999

GAYLORD SHAW (1942-2015), senior correspondent in Newsday’s Washington Bureau, had a distinguished journalism career stretching almost 50 years from the back shop of the EI Reno American to the front pages of America’s biggest newspapers. He began his career in 1955 as a 13-year-old sports writer. Shaw’s resume read like a Who’s Who in American Newspapers, with reporter and editor posts at newspapers such as the Los Angeles Times and Dallas Times Herald, and as a correspondent for Associated Press. Shaw won a Pulitzer Prize.

How to Submit a Nomination

Selection Process

Honorees are selected by a committee comprised of hall of fame members, including its director, and distinguished leaders in journalism. The Selection Committee considers all nominations, both new ones and those held over from previous years, before selecting the honorees.

The 2024 Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame nominee submission deadline is Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
