Jan Lovell

Inducted: 2000

JAN LOVELL (1934-2014) Oklahoma Educational Television Authority State Capitol Bureau chief, began his broadcast career at KVSO radio in Ardmore while in junior high. He graduated from Oklahoma University with a degree in philosophy while he worked with KNOR. He also worked for TV stations in Louisiana and South Carolina. In Oklahoma over the years, he was anchor and producer at KWTV, KTVY, and KAUT. He became anchor at OETA in 1981 where he and his staff covered the capitol with depth and accuracy. Lovell’s “Legislative Week in review” was required viewing for those who follow what is happening at the capitol. He also chaired the broadcast press corps at the State Capitol.

How to Submit a Nomination

Selection Process

Honorees are selected by a committee comprised of hall of fame members, including its director, and distinguished leaders in journalism. The Selection Committee considers all nominations, both new ones and those held over from previous years, before selecting the honorees.

The 2024 Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame nominee submission deadline is Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
