Ainsley Martinez, 2022 recipient of the Oklahoma Press Association Award for Outstanding Promise in Journalism

Ainsley Martinez is a professional media major with a pre-law minor at the University of Central Oklahoma.

Her experience in journalism began in high school with Edmond North’s student newspaper, The Ruff Draft. Serving as the Marketing Editor, Martinez received the Oklahoma Education Association Marshall Gregory Award for her feature story on students’ experiences with racism at Edmond North High School.

Martinez was then chosen to attend the Washington Journalism and Media Conference in Washington, D.C. where her passion for reporting cemented. In her junior year of high school, Martinez interned at The Oklahoman. She returns to The Oklahoman this summer for their college internship program.

Martinez currently acts as the Managing Editor of The Vista at UCO. She covers various beats, most notably university governance, where she broke news of conversations about university budget concerns.

How to Submit a Nomination

Selection Process

Honorees are selected by a committee comprised of hall of fame members, including its director, and distinguished leaders in journalism. The Selection Committee considers all nominations, both new ones and those held over from previous years, before selecting the honorees.

The 2023 Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame nominee submission deadline is Monday, Ocober 31, 2022.
