Amanda Siew, The 2020 recipient of the Brian Jay Walke Scholarship in Journalism Ethics

Amanda Siew, an international student from Malaysia, is a professional media senior with a public relations minor at the University of Central Oklahoma. She graduates in May 2021.

Her passion for journalism started in 2019 when she began volunteering at UCentral News, UCO’s student-run newscast. From there, she found her love for news and producing.

Amanda is a newscast producer and the executive social media producer for UCentral News and a contributing writer with The Vista at UCO. She is passionate about informing the community around her and giving a voice to the voiceless, especially through covering stories about diversity and the international community.

During her time at UCO, she received several awards for her work including placing top three nationally in the Society of Professional Journalists’ 2020 College Coronavirus Coverage Awards and winning “Best Newscast” in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association Awards.

How to Submit a Nomination

Selection Process

Honorees are selected by a committee comprised of hall of fame members, including its director, and distinguished leaders in journalism. The Selection Committee considers all nominations, both new ones and those held over from previous years, before selecting the honorees.

The 2022 Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame nominee submission deadline is Sunday, Ocober 31, 2021.
